OPENING TIMES CHANGES AS OF 17TH SEPTEMBER 2016

AS OF SATURDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER WE WILL ONLY BE OPENING AT WEEKENDS. OUR OPENING TIMES ARE CONTROLLED BY DAYLIGHT HOURS SO PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT TO SWIM IN THE DARK ..... IT JUST IS NOT SAFE :-)

OPENING DATE 2016 (hopefully)

We are hoping to open on Sunday 8th May. We will obviously be dependent on the water being warm enough by then so please keep an eye on this website or our facebook or twitter for updates.

OPENING TIMES CHANGES

Due to our days slowly getting shorter (boo hoo!! :-( sad times). Therefore you need to be aware that we will not allow swimming when the light is insufficient to make sure you are all safe. This means that we will be opening slightly later on the early sessions and closing earlier in the evening sessions. Keep an eye of facebook and twitter for up to date information.

New to Open Water Swimming?

First of all, welcome! You have chosen the right place to come for your first time – we will look after you and do everything possible to make sure you have a great experience. We pride ourselves on spending the time needed to ensure you feel totally comfortable. Just one warning – open water swimming is addictive!

The first time you come to Shepperton Open Water Swim you will need to fill out our health questionnaire/indemnity form. To speed up your induction process please DOWNLOAD THIS FORM, complete it and bring it to your first session. We do not operate the same way as other lakes so please take time to read our Lake Rules. When you are ready to swim for the first time ALL SWIMMERS (absolutely NO exceptions!) will have to complete our swim test. This involves swimming 100 metres and treading water for 1 minute while being watched by one of our staff.  If you complete this comfortably then you will be allowed to swim your chosen course.  If you cannot complete this test then we will happily work with you on building up to it.

What do I need to bring?

The following kit is the basic essentials:

  • Swimsuit/swim shorts
  • Goggles
  • Swimming hat (bright in colour)
  • Towel
  • Wetsuit – If you don't own one these can be hired at the lake. Our suits are provided by Sigma Sport who are an independent retailer -  they stock all the major brands of wetsuits (plus any other triathlon equipment you could possibly need).  Sigma Sport fully trained staff will assist you in choosing the right size. If you are looking to buy a suit then this is the perfect opportunity to try one before you buy.  Anyone who buys a wetsuit at Sigma Sport will be offered a complimentary swim at our lake.
  • Flip Flops or similar footwear to wear between changing rooms and the lake

DO NOT PANIC IF YOU DISCOVER THAT YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN SOMETHING.  OUR LITTLE SIGMA SPORT SHOP CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING YOU MIGHT NEED.
